Turkey Oak (Quercus cerris) far surpasses many other European wood species in terms of hardness and load-bearing capacity. Often referred to as “the iron oak,” it is heavier than classic oak, possesses immense compression resistance due to its tightly packed fibers, and boasts an excellent Janka hardness rating—making it extremely resistant to denting and wear.
Admittedly, it is a challenging wood to process, but we don’t complain; our goal is to provide our customers with quality in any quantity.
Compared to Turkey Oak, beech is dense but “moves” with humidity (acting like a sponge), ash is very elastic, spruce is soft and fast-growing, and European walnut has an impeccable grain but lacks the sheer hardness of Turkey Oak.
