How many months a year do you keep the fire burning? In our region, the Western part of Romania (we are based in Lipova, Arad County), we are used to burning wood from approximately October to March. Our neighbors in Northern Romania, where temperatures are much lower, burn wood for about nine months a year. Sounds like a lot? It is. The solution? High-quality hardwood is a must!

How can you tell if wood is of superior quality? Let’s look at two examples:
The Sound: when you strike two pieces of hardwood together and hear a sharp, almost metallic sound, you have confirmation that the wood has high density and low moisture content. If the sound is dull/thudding, it is not quality wood.
The Appearance: look at the ends of the logs – cracks starting from the center of the fiber are a natural sign of drying, meaning the wood is ready to generate heat, not steam.
